Yes. The glass used in shower screens is toughened safety glass, which is designed to be significantly stronger than standard glass. If it ever breaks, it shatters into small pieces rather than sharp shards.

At what stage does a full height shower screen get installed?

Full height shower screens are typically measured after wall tiling has been completed. Installation is best carried out before other bathroom fixtures such as vanities, bathtubs or toilets are installed.

Because floor to ceiling glass panels can be quite large and heavy, they require enough space to be safely manoeuvred into position. Keeping the bathroom relatively clear makes installation easier and helps ensure the glass can be installed into position without the risk of damaging other fixtures.

Are there any downsides to full height shower screens?

Full height shower screens create a very clean and architectural look, but there are a couple of practical considerations.

Because the glass runs all the way to the ceiling, cleaning the upper section of the panel may require a small step ladder depending on the ceiling height.

Ventilation is also important. Since the shower area is more enclosed, the bathroom must have adequate ventilation to allow moisture and steam to escape. This is usually achieved with a good exhaust fan or natural ventilation.
